Reviews
I have walked by this place a few times and thought it's a super cute small restaurant off the main street so I finally gave it a try! I was skeptical given reviews, but honestly it was a gem! Note, there are only two servers and two sushi chefs, it's a small restaurant and they know that. Be patient and you'll have a blast. Summary: amazing food, decent service but very friendly staff, great sake, and great price. We had 3 people and ate like royalty.
First off, had the daiginjo sake flight and it was super smooth with a variety of flavors.
Started with 1) hamachi with truffle oil, radish, micro greens and avocado and 2) uni gem (uni, quail egg, salmon roe in a spoon) and 3) an sashimi omakase sampler. All of this was super fresh and almost buttery with unique flavors. Definitely get the Kizami Wasabi to pair with your sashimi
Added 4 rolls: 1) hamachi jalapeno 2) ishikawa roll 3) kombucha white tuna 4) tropical. Maki was well balanced rice to ingredients and not really thick fat pieces which I appreciated. The scallop was silky and not rubbery at all. The kombucha was really unique and just flat out delicious (the slight tempura added the perfect crunch) and the tropical was definitely unique and like a good way to end the meal. The macadamia nut balanced the sweetness of the mango and unagi well. We left not stuffed, but not hungry at all either.
Server forgot the miso (part of omakase), but it wasn't that much of a loss, they brought out edamame and extra Kizami Wasabi during the meal as it was taking longer than expected. As we were leaving we had a really homey conversation with the manager who is so sweet. It's definitely a neighborhood spot and I'll be back!
We were so lucky to find this place in the city! It's tucked away in a neighborhood, we almost missed it, lol. The atmosphere of the tiny restaurant was pretty and pleasant, the food was fresh and delicious. We had amazingly attentive service and equally amazing food! Order the oysters, you won't regret it!
We've eaten here many times with two kids under 5 years old. They serve incredibly fresh and delicious sushi, tempura, and other dishes. We were surprised by the high quality and incredible flavors. The kids eat simpler stuff like chicken karage and edamame. They love coming here and eating as a family. It's the type of restaurant everyone can enjoy at a really good price.
I heard they bought this place from the previous owner about 6 months ago and I don't believe the new owner or the sushi chefs are Japanese. The service was not very good, maybe because they were too busy. The chirashi was very so so, kind of disappointing. The sashimi fish was okay. The fried chicken for the udon was not good at all, though the udon was acceptable. Now, save the best for last, the hamachi kama was quite delicious, grilled just right.
Excellent rolls, very delicate and put together with care. The taste and freshness was also there. Quick service and reasonably priced, what else can you ask for.
Super cute neighborhood place, bursting with character, with zero wait. Had a bit of trouble figuring out portion sizes, and communicating with staff, but the food itself was solid. Great spot to take a date.
Absolutely love this place and the people who make it happen. Highest quality fish and great atmosphere. They’ve totally remedied any carry out timeliness issue, too!
Great food, wonderful staff, decent pricing. The service was great! Everyone was so friendly and patient. The sushi was so good! The chirashi is a great value. The gyoza was great as well! I would be a regular at Goemon if I lived in SF.
